Star of the North Games The Star of the North Games is Minnesota's own Olympic-style multi-sport event. Each year a different Minnesota community hosts the Games and in 2004 Saint Paul will host the event for the first time. Over 8,100 athletes representing 298 cities will compete in 22 sports ranging from Aggressive Skating and Beach Volleyball to Horseshoes and Weightlifting. Saint Paul is offering a variety of lodging options for the Star of the North Games. June 18-20 and 25-27 throughout Saint Paul. |

Saint Paul Inline Skate Marathon 3000 inline skaters of varying ages and abilities will be rolling for 26.2 miles amidst the skyline of Saint Paul and the Mississippi River at the inaugural Saint Paul Inline Marathon. The race route will be along the river, using Shepard Road and Warner Road passing significant areas of riverfront development, including Upper Landing Housing, Upper Landing Park, Samuel Morgan Trail, and of course the Xcel Energy Center and the Science Museum. World Cup of Hockey Eight of the top hockey nations in the world come to the State of Hockey to compete in the second round of the NHL World Cup of Hockey tournament. Xcel Energy Center will host four games with teams representing the Unitied States, Canada, Russia and the Czech Republic. |

The inaugural World Cup of Hockey was played in 1996. It was born of a rich tradition of international hockey competition that has included the 1972 Summit Series, the Challenge Cup in 1979, Rendez-Vous '87, and a series of Canada Cup Tournaments, last played in 1991. The United States defeated Canada, 2-1, in a thrilling three-game 1996 World Cup final series. September 23, 7 & 10 at Xcel Energy Center. |
Play Ball! The Saint Paul Saints play professional minor league baseball, wild and outside, at Midway Stadium. Offering an entertaining brand of the national pastime featuring wacky promotions, giveaways, contests and, of couse, exciting baseball. Tailgate in the stadium parking lot or take advantage of a designated picnic area for pregame acivities. Memorial Day through August at Midway Stadium.

Soccer in the City Minnesota Thunder Soccer comes to Saint Paul in 2004. The Thunder, founded in 1990, is a professional soccer franchise that plays in the Western Conference of the 16-team A-League. May through September at James Griffin Stadium.
- The Minnesota Thunder have partnered with MetroTransit to offer FREE bus rides two hours prior and two hours after every Thunder regular season home game.
- Thunder will push up the kickoff times on Saturday nights to 6 p.m., giving fans a chance to eat dinner at the stadium and either return home at an earlier hour or enjoy some of the other attractions at the nearby Grand Avenue business district or downtown.
- The Thunder have made significant upgrades to its concessions at games, giving fans better quality, more choices and quicker service.
- The seats at Griffin Stadium, located on both sides of the stadium, are approximately 10 yards closer to the field than the NSC.

Mississippi National River and Recreation Area Did you know that Saint Paul lies in the heart of a National Park? The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area is a 72 mile stretch of the river- from Ramsey and Dayton in the north to south of Hastings- and offers a variety of recreation, boating, bird watching, fishing, biking, hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, climbing and more. Don't forget to visit the Mississippi River Visitors Center located in the lobby of the Science Museum of Minnesota. Here you can gather all the information you need to explore the Mississippi and plan other trips to national parks. |

Como Park is the most visited park in the State and features the free Como Park Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. Harriet Island features a variety of festivals and provides beautiful access to the Mississippi River. Highland Park features the renovated Highland Golf Course reopening in 2005.
