Designed by renowned architect Cass Gilbert, the Capitol building took nine years and $4.5 million to complete. It has drawn critical acclaim throughout the country for its beautiful exteriors, soaring domes, self-supporting stairways, monumental arches, columns, statues and symbolic murals. This year, Saint Paul will welcome visitors with numerous Capitol Centennial events, all celebrating and honoring the preservation and protection of Minnesota's most visible and valued treasure.
