Grand Excursion 2004 is a year-long event celebrating and commemorating the historic Grand Excursion of 1854, while establishing the upper Mississippi as one of the nation's most appealing destinations for tourists.
The events surrounding Grand Excursion 2004 will tie the communities together in a common bond while showing the world the new face of the upper Mississippi River - a reclaimed treasure for tourism and recreation. The Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and dozens of organizations will be holding hundreds of of events .
The signature event of Grand Excursion 2004 is the Grand Flotilla, the largest steamboat flotilla in 100 years, that will journey through four states, from the Quad Cities to the Twin Cities from June 25 - July 5, 2004.
