Ramsey Alexander Ramsey House

Assumption Church
51 W 7th St, Saint Paul (651) 224-7536 Completed in 1871. Patterned after Munich's Ludwigskirche. The oldest church in Saint Paul. Downtown.

Cathedral Image Cathedral of Saint Paul
239 Selby Ave at Summit, Saint Paul 55702 (651) 228-1766 Modeled after St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome. Dedicated in 1915 by Archbishop John Ireland as a monument to the people of Saint Paul. Donations accepted. Hours: daily 8 am to 6 pm. Guided tours Mon, Wed and Fri at 1 pm. Downtown.

City Hall and Courthouse
15 W Kellogg Blvd, Saint Paul (651) 266-8023 Prominent example of art deco architecture, with Carl Milles' three-story onyx "Vision of Peace" statue in the lobby. Hours: Mon-Fri, 8 am to 4:30 pm; self guided tour or guided tours by appointment, call 266-8023. Downtown.

Fillebrown House/White Bear Lake Area Historical Society
4735 Lake Ave, White Bear Lake (651) 426-0479, info (651) 429-1891 tours. Tours available Sun, 1 pm to 4 pm; May 15-Labor Day and first weekend in December for this lovely 1879 cottage. $2 admission.

Governor's Residence
1006 Summit Ave, Saint Paul (651) 297-8177 Official residence of the State's chief executive. Formerly the Horace Irvine home. Within grounds is the Minnesota Garden Memorial with a sculpture by Paul Granlund commemorating the service of Minnesotans in Vietnam. Free one-hour tours available May-October, call for appointment.

Historic Fort Snelling
Hwys 5 and 55, Saint Paul 55111 (651) 726-1171 Stone fortress on a bluff above the Mississippi River depicts the outpost life of early Minnesota. Restored to its 1827 appearance. Costumed guides demonstrate crafts and military drills. Hours: May through October, Mon-Sat, 10 am to 5 pm; Sun, noon to 5 pm. Historic Fort Snelling History Center open daily. Historic Murphy's Landing
2187 E HWY 101, Shakopee (612) 445-0181 A living history museum dating from the 1840's to 1890's. Located on 88 acres along 1 1/2 miles of the scenic minnesota River Valley. Hours: Tue-Sat, 10 am to 5 pm, Sun noon to 5 pm. Admission: adults, $8.50; seniors, and children, $7.

James J. Hill House
240 Summit Ave, Saint Paul (651) 297-2555 Built by railroad baron James Hill in 1891, it was the biggest mansion in the Midwest. See the intricate details of this impressive structure including stained glass windows, tile fireplaces, richly carved woodwork and cutglass chandeliers. Hours: Wed-Sat 10 am to 3:30 pm. Fitz Landmark Center
75 W 5th St, Saint Paul (651) 292-3228 Dedicated in 1902 as the Federal Court House and was the site of many infamous gangster trials. Now houses programs for performing and visual arts and civic activities. Free tours Thu 11 am, Sun 1 pm and by appointment. Self guided tours daily.

Lowertown
Lowertown Redevelopment Corporation Galtier Plaza, Saint Paul (651) 227-9131 Many of the city's oldest and most architecturally significant buildings have been restored to encompass this thriving urban village. Sibley Historic Site
