SAINT PAUL CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU BEGINS OUTREACH TO CITY'S GAY COMMUNITY
SAINT PAUL - Staff members of the Saint Paul Convention and Visitors Bureau have begun to work with key organizations to develop better ways to market to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Trikkx, Saint Paul's only downtown gay bar, recently became the Bureau's first member representing the GLBT community.
"We will continue to reach out to businesses and organizations that serve the GLBT community," said Ron Pollworth, director of communications with the Bureau. "Saint Paul has so much to offer all individuals, regardless of lifestyle, and we want to let the gay community know they are invited and welcome in Saint Paul."
Pollworth explained that this new initiative was prompted by a number of articles that the Bureau has received written about the gay community in the Twin Cities, some of which were specifically about Saint Paul.
"These articles were very positive and encouraged the gay traveler to consider Saint Paul as a vacation and leisure destination," Pollworth said "It makes sense for us to highlight the various gay friendly venues that Saint Paul has to offer," Pollworth said. "We're glad Trikkx stepped up to the plate."
Any current Bureau member, who would like to be represented as GLBT friendly, as now available on the Bureau's website at www.visitsaintpaul.com, should contact Tom Brock, tourism marketing manager at (651) 265-4904.
"It's important we have gay businesses and organizations as members," Pollworth said, "so we can further market their venues in our publications and website to inform the gay traveler of all that we have available to them."
Any business or organization not a member of the Bureau but who would like to join, should contact Mary Mullowney, director of membership sales, at (651) 265-4907.
