Skate into Great Rates at Saint Paul Hotels for Holidays Outdoor Skating Rink Opens December 4 - February 22
(Saint Paul, MN) The Saint Paul Convention and Visitors Bureau plans to dazzle visitors this winter with an outdoor ice skating arena, similar to the Rockefeller Plaza rink which has thrilled winter visitors for decades. To entice guests to stay longer and take full advantage of Saint Paul's wide array of attractions and entertainment options, Saint Paul Hotels will feature Skate into Great Rates, starting at $69, on weekends from Thanksgiving through Winter Carnival, February 6, 2005.
Saint Paul has always glistened during the holidays, with an array of festivals and events that fit well with the city's charming European ambiance and enchanting snowfalls. There is perhaps no more beautiful backdrop for a city than Saint Paul's Landmark Center on Rice Park, which will be a focal point this year as its trees sparkle with millions of twinkling lights creating a fairy tale glow beneath softly falling snow. The outdoor ice skating rink will be set up at Landmark Plaza, adjacent to the park, where skaters of all ages and abilities can take in the beauty of the park while enjoying one of Minnesota's favorite outdoor activities. Skating and access to the warming house will be free, with a small fee for skate rental. Vendors will sell hot chocolate, coffee and snacks.
"The skating rink at the Winter Carnival ice palace was such a huge hit this year, that we felt a seasonal skating rink would draw residents and visitors alike downtown to enjoy all the special events, theatrical performances and exhibits of the season," said Brad Toll, vice president of tourism for the Saint Paul Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Activities around the rink will include music, carolers and Victorian themed entertainment and displays. Public skating hours will be Noon to 2 pm Monday through Friday, 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday and 5 to 10 pm Friday through Sunday. Visitors can also watch hockey clinics and youth hockey programs weekdays from 4 to 8 pm and participate in family activities and events on weekends from 3 to 5 pm.
Sponsors and partners for the skating rink include title sponsor Wells Fargo, The Saint Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota Wild, City of Saint Paul, Capital City Partnership, The Charles M. Schulz Foundation, The Herb Brooks Foundation, The Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation, Kraus-Anderson Companies, St. Paul Travelers, 3M, Minnesota Life, Comcast, Lawson Software, Padilla Speer Beardsley, Ryan Partnership, Walsh Bishop Associates, Skyway Event Services and the Design Group.
